Huesos Fuertes, Familia Saludable (Strong Bones, Healthy Family Promotora Curriculum)

This Spanish-language curriculum for community health workers includes four educational sessions and corresponding handouts on osteoporosis risk factors and prevention, the importance of calcium rich foods, the importance of physical activity for bone health, and tips for overcoming barriers to improving bone health. The curriculum includes a CD-ROM with English translation of lessons and handouts.


 

Lesson 1: Bone Health Throughout Life

Describes osteoporosis, risk factors for the disease, and the importance of milk.

Lesson 2: Food Sources of Calcium for Bone Health

Provides an overview on the importance of calcium, calcium rich foods, discussion on reading food labels and the food guide pyramid.

Lesson 3: Physical Activity for Bone Health

Describes the importance of physical activity for healthy bones, types of exercises recommended and includes a group activity.

Lesson 4: Maintaining Success for Bone Health

Provides an overview of all lessons with emphasis on overcoming barriers to continue improving bone health throughout life.
